Are Chemical Peels Right for Me?
Chemical peels come in different categories based on their strength. Dr. Schwartz is a world-renowned plastic surgeon who has tons of experience with chemical peels. To determine if chemical peels are right for you, it is recommended that you schedule a consultation so that he can evaluate your skin as well as your medical history to determine the type of peel to use on your skin or if another treatment may work better.
How are Chemical Peels Applied?
The chemical peel solution is applied to the targeted area with a light brush or applicator then allowed to penetrate the skin. During this process, the skin starts to lighten in its color. Once complete, cold compresses are applied to the targeted area followed by a neutralizing solution if needed. Most chemical peel treatments take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes to complete; however, if a deeper peel is performed, it may take up to two hours to complete. Typically, no sedation is required except for stronger peels that may go deeper into the skin.
Recovery from Chemical Peels
The recovery from chemical peels depends on the type of treatment used. With most chemical peels, the skin feels tight and may have a red tinge to it with light peeling that is controlled with moisturizer. After about five days, most visible peeling should subside. It is important to remember to use a gentle facial cleanser followed by moisturizer and sunscreen to aid the healing process and enhance the results. Additionally, direct sun exposure should be avoided during the healing process. Allow the skin to peel naturally without any assistance to avoid scarring. Once the peeling is complete, the skin will begin to look smoother and have more of a natural glow.

The cost of chemical peels varies with each patient depending on the type of peel and the extent of the area to be treated.
