Fat Transfer and Injections in Los Angeles, CA
There are several ways to add volume to areas of the face that have thinned or become hollowed due to age. At Beverly Hills Breast and Body Institute MedSpa, Jaime S. Schwartz, M.D., F.A.C.S., a board-certified plastic surgeon, performs fat transfers and injections on residents in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, CA, as well as surrounding cities who want to look younger and have a glowing complexion.
What are Fat Transfer and Injections?
Fat transfer and injection is a minimally invasive procedure where fat is taken from one area of the body and injected into areas of the face, such as cheeks, lips and the folds around the nose and mouth to add volume and decrease lines. It is a very precise procedure that requires the skill of a plastic surgeon that knows how to sculpt the fat to fill in the targeted areas, resulting in a younger, smoother complexion. Fat transfer and injection is a more natural option instead of using artificial dermal fillers or injectables.
Benefits of Fat Transfer and Injections
In addition to using fat from the patient’s own body, fat transfer and injections offer the following benefits:
- Slight downtime following the procedure
- Shapes and contours the area where fat is taken
- No allergic reaction to fillers as the fat injected is from the patient’s own body
- Easy procedure done in the doctor’s office
- A safe and effective procedure
Is Fat Transfer and Injection Right for Me?
If you are considering dermal fillers and injectables, fat transfer and injection are ideal for those who are not comfortable with injecting artificial substances into their bodies. Additionally, fat transfer and injection is an excellent option for patients who would like to remove unwanted fat from one area of the body by using it as a dermal filler on the face to diminish lines, folds and wrinkles.
Elements of Fat Transfer and Injection
Fat transfer and injection is a procedure that takes from one to three hours depending on the amount of augmentation necessary to complete the procedure. The targeted area for fat removal (usually the belly, thighs or buttocks) is punctured with a specific needle that leaves tiny pinhole perforations. Dr. Schwartz inserts a thin liposuction cannula into the small punctures and removes the fat. While he uses a liposuction cannula, fat transfer and injection is different from liposuction in that it removes far less fat (about 40ccs compared to 1000ccs during liposuction). Once the fat is removed and prepared for injection, it is immediately injected into the face or area of the body being treated. It is then sculpted to look natural and fresh looking.
This procedure involves local anesthesia with oral sedation if necessary. Therefore, it is recommended someone accompany those who receive fat transfer and injection.
How Long Is the Recovery After Fat Transfer and Injection?
Unlike most other dermal filler and injectable treatments, fat transfer and injection requires some slight downtime. We recommend patients take it easy for a few days by avoiding strenuous exercise and activity; however, most patients can return to work the next day following the procedure. There may be some slight swelling or bruising immediately following the procedure, but it diminishes within one to two weeks. The results are long lasting but do require maintenance treatments.
How Much Does Fat Transfer and Injection Cost?
Fat transfer and injection varies in cost depending on the area from which fat is pulled and the extent of the area to be treated. Please refer to our financing page for payment options.
What Should I Do Next?
It is necessary to make an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Schwartz so that he can determine if fat transfer and injection or if another injectable treatment is the best option to achieve your goals. During the consultation, he evaluates the areas of your face and body you would like to correct or improve, as well as the area from which fat is taken. Additionally, if you have any questions, he takes as much time as necessary to answer them and make sure you understand the details.
