Micro Needling PRP in Los Angeles, CA
Age and the environment take a toll on our skin making us look old and tired. At Beverly Hills Breast and Body Institute, Jaime S. Schwartz, M.D., F.A.C.S., a board-certified plastic surgeon, performs micro-needling PRP (platelet rich plasma) to repair the skin, making it look more rejuvenated and younger looking.
What is Micro-Needling PRP?
Micro-needling PRP is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves using tiny microneedles to make microscopic holes in the targeted area of the face. This is done to allow platelet rich plasma (PRP) to be absorbed into the skin so that it intensifies its collagen production, as well as increase the skin’s elasticity. The microscopic holes make it easier for the PRP to permeate the inner layers of the skin.
Platelet rich plasma is the part of the blood that is rich in platelets to help initiate and speed healing. When used in micro-needling, it helps rejuvenate the skin by stimulating collagen and elastin in the skin.
Benefits of Micro-needling PRP
Micro-needling is similar to laser skin resurfacing in that it accomplishes similar objectives to enhance the skin. It offers the following benefits:
- No downtime or recovery
- Performed in an office setting
- Preferred procedure for those areas too sensitive for laser skin resurfacing
- Enhances PRP delivery into the skin
- Can also be used to reduce stretch marks, sun damage, and light wrinkles
Is Micro-Needling PRP Right for Me?
If you are healthy and have no medical conditions involving the blood, micro-needling PRP may be the right choice to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, as well as increase volume and elasticity in your skin.
How is Micro-Needling PRP Performed?
Prior to the actual procedure, we take a small sample of blood and separate the PRP from the other parts. Microneedles make tiny punctures into the skin with the PRP being spread over the area so that it seeps into the holes and spreads deeply throughout the targeted area. As the tiny punctures heal, collagen production increases, as does the production of elastin, resulting in a smoother and healthier complexion.
The procedure is well tolerated and takes only about 30 minutes to an hour. Numbing cream is applied prior to the micro-needling to ensure no discomfort. If more than one treatment is necessary, we recommend patients allow at least six weeks between treatments.
Micro-Needling PRP Recovery
Micro-needling PRP has very little if any, downtime following the procedure. Any results from the healing process itself fade within a few days. It is important to keep the area clean, but makeup can be applied in the days following the treatment. The results start to become more visible within two to four weeks and last anywhere from six months to a year depending on the condition of the skin at the time of the first treatment and how well patients care for their skin.
How Much Does Micro-Needling PRP Cost?
The cost of micro-needling PRP is different for every patient as it depends on the extent of the damage or imperfections of the targeted area, as well as other procedures performed at the same time. Please review our financing page to review our payment options.
